Jan Kumar Bio

Jan Kumar, MPH, has over 30 years of experience in international family planning and reproductive health programs; has worked in a total of 27 countries across Africa, Asia, the Near East, and Latin America. Former Senior Technical Advisor to the RESPOND Project and EngenderHealth, Ms. Kumar provided strategic guidance on program design and serves as a technical resource on all matters related to informed choice, client counseling and rights in reproductive health. She is a member of the WHO-led Implementing Best Practices Consortium’s Coordinating Committee, and has served on the planning committees of several international conferences as well as numerous interagency experts groups to define, promote and scale-up best practices for reproductive health. Throughout her tenure at EngenderHealth, she managed several global programs (Knowledge Management, Informed Choice, Client Perspectives, Post-Abortion Care) as well as national service delivery programs (Egypt, India, Jordan, Turkey and Uganda). In addition to her work with EngenderHealth, she is an adjunct professor in the NYU MPH program in which she teaches Program Planning and Evaluation.
